Hard Skills:
- Be at least 21 years old to participate as a mentor in our program
- Have completed college (2-year or 4-year) or trade school certificate *Exceptions may be made for self-made business owners/entrepreneurs
- Currently live and reside in the State of California (out-of-state not accepted)
- Ability to pass a fingerprinting & background check (with no prior convictions)
- Ability to meet twice per month for a minimum of one academic year w/ mentee(s)
Applicant Requirements
- Submit a professional resume, and a list of at least 2 references
- Sign & complete your program commitment + background check consent form
- Sign & complete your program photo release & media waiver
- Complete a quick matching survey to assess your relatability & readiness
- Complete a 30 minute interview with a Stockton Scholars staff member
Registration Requirements
- Pass and get cleared for fingerprinting & background check through Certifix vendor
- Attend an annual orientation and at least 2 subsequent mentor training sessions
- Meet for 2 hours per month to support a college-aged student from the SS program
- Complete a monthly mentor feedback survey to track the progress of the mentee
- Participate in student-facing panels, events, and social media campaigns as needed
Program Requirements
- You will contribute to a scholar's growth, and have the opportunity to enhance their professional skills, expand their network, and help them gain perspectives on life.
- Through one-on-one mentoring sessions, you can provide career advice, industry insights, and valuable connections that can open doors and create opportunities for these young minds.
- Mentors must be at least 25-years old, have a postsecondary degree or certification, and live in the State of California.
- Mentors must fill out an application and a subsequent matching survey.
- Mentors must be able to pass a criminal background check.
- Mentors must complete a Virtual Interview to assess their fit for the role and program.
- Mentors must attend a mandatory orientation during the Fall time each year of their participation in the program.
Stockton Scholars will open recruitment for new mentors in Spring 2024.
- February-May: Recruitment cycle and information sessions begin.
- June-July: Applicants complete registration process, matching survey, and fingerprinting (mentors only).
- August: Annual program orientation begins - mandatory for all participants (date TBA). Mentor program matches sent out and mentoring sessions start.
- FALL - September-December: Mentors and mentees meet for 2 hours per month.
- SPRING - January-May: Mentors and mentees meet for 2 hours per month.
Mentors must meet with their assigned mentee for 2 hours per month in the Fall and Spring semesters.
